Rock climbing

The first recorded rock climbs in the Sinai Desert were in the 1930s by the infamous Italian mountaineer E. Comicci. Since then the Sinai Desert has slowly developed into one of the best climbing destinations in the Middle East- Towering granite peaks with great rock litter the high mountains around St Katherine’s Village. The Bedouin Camp provides an ideal location to base your selves whilst you explore and climb the peaks around St Katherine’s Village. Most climbs are within a 45 minute walk from the camp.

Dave Lucas and The Expedition Consultancy have been exploring and climbing in the area since 2002. They are now very close to compiling the first comprehensive climbing guidebook to the South Sinai Desert. A lot of effort went into compiling the existing route information for the peaks around the village. and Dave Lucas has formatted this info into printer friendly PDFs, which can be downloaded at the bottom of this page:
expeditionconsultancy.com/...

These PDFs will give you a good indication of the grades and location of the routes, but be warned that the information is full of errors. The topos often do not fit with the route description, some are even in completely the wrong location. The star rating and quality of the rock has sometimes been given incorrectly. Sometimes the route description is missing altogether. Dave Lucas and the Expedition Consultancy are currently repeating all the existing routes to ensure that these errors are fixed before they are added to the up coming guidebook. To learn how to join them in this mammoth task then please click here.

The Expedition Consultancy also post regular updates with regards to information relating to climbing in the area, which will assist you to plan your climbing trip. Please click here to visit this post.

Here at The Bedouin Camp we understand the needs of climbers and although we may not be up at 05:00 to make you breakfast we can arrange for the kitchen to be opened so that you can make a cup of tea or coffee and eat your own breakfast before you head off into the hills. We love having climbers in our camp and really enjoy sitting around the fire at night drinking tea and listening to their exciting tales of adventure and bravery. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions and we look forward to seeing you soon.
